How to join the "School of Tourism"

  • Lecture — weekly theoretical sessions about types of tourism and their features. We show how to set up tents and tarpaulins, properly use camping gear, cook on burners, navigate the terrain, and more.
  • Weekend hike — a practical session where participants, along with experienced instructors, apply the knowledge they've gained. To participate in the hike, you need to attend the "School of Tourism" lecture.

The program will be useful for beginners, but experienced hikers will also be able to glean useful information, as the training includes various travel tips. And, of course, it's a great opportunity to spend time with like-minded people and make new friends.

Now lectures and weekend hikes are held almost weekly. Like the program sessions, all lectures at the Travel Club are open and free. Keep an eye on the schedule, register, and come.

Details about the School of Tourism departure

  • The practical session takes place in a group of up to 18 people. Participants meet in the morning at the Travel Club "Sport-Marathon" at the address: Moscow, 5th Kozhukhovskaya, 10.
  • Here, participants receive safety instructions and camping gear, and attend a master class on packing a backpack. After that, the group boards a booked bus and heads to the forest. Upon arrival, participants go on a short 5 km hike with map orientation elements. Then they cook lunch on burners. In the afternoon, participants also practice the skills they've learned under the guidance of instructors. Closer to 9 pm, the group returns to the Travel Club premises.
  • In the winter season, the emphasis in the hike is on ski and snowshoe techniques. In the summer, the emphasis is on master classes for setting up camp, tents, and tarps, and learning basic knots.
  • * Participants are selected for the practical session through a lottery at the end of the lecture.
  • What Sport-Marathon provides and organizes.
  • Gear for going into the forest. Each participant will be given a backpack, skis, poles, snowshoes, as well as some common gear: tents, food, hammocks, tarpaulin, pots, etc.
  • Meals. For a one-day program — lunch. For a two-day program — lunch and dinner on the first day, breakfast on the second day.
  • For a two-day winter hike program — accommodation in a tent with a stove for 18 people. In the summer season — accommodation in tents for 2-3 people.
  • A comfortable bus for the trip to and from the forest.
  • Work of instructors with extensive tourist experience.
  • Equipment that a hike participant should have.
  • You're going to have a real trip into the forest, so we recommend paying attention to personal gear that's worth taking:
  • Mandatory gear: a thermos or thermal mug of at least 0.5 liters, personal dishes such as a plate, mug, spoon, and fork; charged and working flashlight and phone, wet wipes.
  • Comfortable footwear: in the summer — trekking boots or sneakers with treads; in the winter — high trekking or warm winter boots, gaiters if available.
  • Comfortable clothing, which should be chosen based on the weather forecast. In the summer, we recommend taking a membrane jacket (raincoat), fleece jacket, long trekking pants. In the winter, it's quite cold in the forest, so we recommend dressing in layers: take a membrane jacket, down jacket, fleece, and thermal underwear. It's advisable to have a set of dry spare clothes and extra socks.
  • We recommend taking a power bank for charging gadgets.
  • You can also bring a couple of candy bars for tea.
